bb axle lenght

Just got myself a giant fcr compact bike frame to build up as a winter hack which has no bottom bracet .I want to put a shimano alivio 7/8 chain set on it but don't know what bb. axle lenght I need can anyone help?. I do know I have to measure the bb. shell as well.

    part numbers? FC-M??????? on the back of the arms.

    what crank fitting?

    Thanks for that I will check this out .The cranks are shimano alivio 175mm square drive will this make any differants?
