Hi there,
I am pretty set on getting a medium Cotic BFe:

http://www.cotic.co.uk/product/BFe

I was going to get a Fox 36 FLOAT RC2 reduced to 140mm for a combination of stiffness and allround use.

Cotics Sliding Geo diagram:

However Mojo Have said that the 2013 36 can only be reduced to 150mm, same goes for the 34 Float.
So my options seem to be running 150mm permanently or going TALAS.

Looking at weights between the sizes there does not seem to be a huge difference - 1.95kg vs 2.14kg
Also I am unsure of the CTD system. Good reviews seem to be thin on the ground.

Go looking at geometry, weight, FLOAT vs TALAS and CTD vs RC2 has got me a little stuck. :?
Again, any opinions or experience you have would be greatly appreciated.

Intended use is one bike to do-it-all with a bias towards descending natural NE/NW terrain.

Cheers,
Si

Gut feel says 150 will be fine, just run a bit more sag. As for forks, 36 seems overkill, but 34 offers not much weight saving. I'd look to see if the axle to crowns differ. Talas is pointless IMHO, so I'd go either 36RC2, or ctd 34. Having said that, I'd actually just get some BOS forks if I were you.

BOS have no UK distributor atm, so even though a few places can service them, I'd steer clear for the time being. Of the 36 and 34, I'd say 34 Float, 200g is still quite a difference, nearly half a pound, and I really believe the 36 is over kill on anything less than a 160mm FS bike that is likely to see some serious DH time. The CTD simplifies things for people who aren't sure how to set up a fork to its full potential, assuming you know what you're doing, you could set the RC2 up well, but if you'd rather get out and ride and leave the fettling, I'd go CTD everytime.

I have heard that for aggressive riding the descent mode is pretty much useless as it dives too much, but running it in one of the trail settings should get you in a similar place that an RC2 or RLC damper would, so it makes little difference in the end.

Revs work nicely on the BFe and reduced down to 140mm they are really stiff. Lyriks can be reduced as well.
Fox Talas forks are pretty horrible.

I think they do - same people that distribute BOS rally shocks.

That would be r53 engineering, stopped being the distributor a few months ago. Aparrantly had a lot of issues getting parts from bos. Was very tempted to get some devilles for my nomad but having no official uk importer has put me off. Real shame as I've heard they are very, very good forks.

    Thanks for the replies.
I have done some more research and the 34s have a 10mm shorter crown to axle measurement. So I think I'll be going for them.

  • I have talas 36 on my 5, which I ride aggressively and I think they are a bit OTT most of the time(float 32 previously) but compared to the old unit they make a he'll of a difference on big hits. They are heavy but for what I do Ive found hem good so far!
