Finding some conflicting info on der nets on this... I've got 5600 STIs and I now need a new double front mech. Shimano make a great point of only using the 5700 front mech with a x700 shifter, but other places suggest it works fine. Any advice?

I'm using a 5700 front mech with R770 flatbar shifters, which supposedly only work with their corresponding derailleur, too.
If you're going to mismatch kit, the front mech is where you'll probably get away with it, especially on a double.0 -
I used an Ultegra 6700 rear mech and front mech with 5700 levers a couple of years ago with no problems at all, I reckon it may be marketing hype (as usual!)0

I'm running a 5700 front mech with the older (external cable) Dura Ace 7800. Shifting is a little "bang-bang" when dropping onto the inner ring but it's fine.'This week I 'ave been mostly been climbing like Basso - Shirley Basso.'0
