  • Has anyone tried to get through the roadworks? When this route has been closed previously it has been possible to get through even if it has involved a short walk!

No as the the document linked to specifically mentions cycles as well as motor vehicles. The road is very narrow where they are digging it up so I guess they don't want to have to keep stopping work/machinery just to let cyclists get through..But if you want to have a look yourself it's up to you.
  • The work is being done by United Utilities, and they have updated the dates. The latest start date posted is tomorrow (2nd Nov) with the work now not due to finish until mid-January. I've been over a few times since the original start date, and there is nothing in evidence, other than the road closed signs. I intend nipping up late tomorrow to have a look. I will post my findings.

  • Drove up. There are now barriers across the road, about 2 km from Dunsop Bridge. I assume therefore that the digging up has begun.

  • Thanks for the update
  • Oh and while we're at it, Abbeystead Road between Proctor Moss Road and Plantation Lane is still closed at the bridge. Has been passable at weekends, but today was very much closed with barriers and great big yellow Tonka toys!

  • They closed a section of the Cross o Greet road last year. Same signs, rules etc. Just showed caution and rode through, it was a 6" wide trench on one side of the road. Care & consideration required, oh and a bit of common sense! Don't piss everyone off by charging through.

Been through a couple of times recently (e.g. last Friday) and it's been perfectly passable by bike although the roads are very muddy.
