You do not want tread on a road bike - tread is there to remove water to prevent aquaplaning, you cannot aquaplane a bike, so you want the maximum rubber in contact with the road always.

Tyres are the best upgrade you can make to the bike, but yours will be fine for riding.

    I second that.

In answer to your question @AllezGaz, I had those tyres on my now retired - and soon to be sold - hybrid. I had the 25c version and have to say their looks did not live up to their perfomance. I can't really comment on their rolling resistance (as I went from 28c Maxxis Detonators so it wouldn't be a like for like comparsion), but I can say they had next to no puncture protection and caused many frustrations. Over the course of just over a year and about 5000 miles of cycling on varied terrain, I had countless punctures. Also, the compound michelin use for the tread is terrible as the slightess object (sharp or otherwise) would create a huge slit in the tyre. For example I bought a new tyre one day, and by the next day I had a large slit in it that required a patch up. Not good considering had ony cycled my usual 20 miles to and from work on a relatively good road surface (for SW London anyway).
