Hello all, new road cyclist here, and looking to learn as much as I can and starting here. I am an avid competitive waterskier (slalom course), and a generaly active guy. Due to a motocross crash a few years ago (blown acl) I am now rehabing lingering knee issues and have purchased a Defy 3 and been bikeing 3-4 times a week. Knee is improving and my over all conditioning is improving alot however dealing with odd end pain/discomfort here and there. I did buy the bike at a local bike shop and had them fit it to me. Now just doing the small tweaks to really dial it in for me. My question is does anyone have a good resource to link discomfort syntoms to possible adjustemts? For instance if you feel x then raise bars or move seat etc. Thanks in advance for any help.

Depends where about in the country you are !

Nearly all shops will do a fitting - but let me tell you a pro bike fit is in a completley different league - and it will cost you - but worth it IMO.

I live in the midlands and luckily there are two highly regarded fitters reasonably nearby

Adrian Timmis - Cadence Sport - think he charges around £160 - but this is with a set of custom insoles - so isn't such a bad deal.

Epic Cycles - Chris Lines - really good guy - spent quite a bit of time sorting my foot angle out - even took me out for a ride to ensure he had got it right. don't know what the cost is for a full fit - but probably over £100.

Both of these will do you a good fit - do be wary of some of the hero worship on here though - these guys know there stuff - but they can't work miracles - if you are carrying an injury they can't heal it !

What actually happens at a pro fit?

When I picked up my new bike the other day, they measured me, checked the angles of my knees and arms in a couple of different positions (while shining a laser at my knee!), and set the saddle height and front/back position.

Saddle and handlebars, what else is there to adjust? Sorry, rookie question I know :)
    Is the gorilla tired yet?

Actually I am in the US and tried the "are you in the US" link but for somereason the site was very very slow to timming out alot and this one worked really well. This is the best site I have found so far for info. I did get fit by the local bike shop. Basic measurements etc. But everyone is different. It isn't hard to go back to them for minor adjustments but isn't the most convienent either. Was hopeing that I could learn and make the small adjustments myself as I feel the bike out and as I get stronger or change other equipment. I have seen a bit about a "pro fit" seems to be quite a bit more detailed, might have to see if I can find something comparible around here.
