Lower profile winter tyres for mudguards?

Hi,
I bought some mk2 roadracer mudguards for the winter but there is not enough clearance. I read that 28mm would be too wide but even the depth looks way too tight against the frame. I had read on Wiggle that the Focus Cayo should take these mudguards.
Therefore, does anybody have any ideas as to lower profile tyres? Or are these just unusually deep? Or am I just screwed? (I am looking for tyres which wont puncture too easily and will also give me decent grip etc over the winter months.
Pic below..
Thanks

28s are too big. I have only been able to use 23 mm tyres with these guards in the past. I think some people have managed 25s, but that would be a real squeeze.Ecrasez l’infame0

try 23c Schwalbe Durano plus, they are very good against punctures0
