I have managed to bend the rails on two saddles, an old one off a carrera and and newer one off a giant.

So looking for a new saddle and have seen that they come with carbon, titanium, alloy and manganese rails.

Anything I should be looking at o rnot looking at - is it all just marketing bollox?

Nothing will be stronger than steel.

Bend a lot, don't care for weight steel is the way to go really. Try running the clamp bang in the middle of the rails too.

Stand up on the bumpy stuff or go on a diet.

  • OEM saddles are generally shite. I bent the rails pretty badly on an OEM specialized saddle but the specialized Henge saddle I now have has survived some massive crashes.

I've bent a few seats either by crashing or by landing arse heavy on the seat on some sort of compression because i was too tired to stand.

    This could be it.

However I have just decided to try a spoon and after fitting it it feels as if the nose is a little low but looking at the saddlle it is pretty much horizontal. When I sit on it it feels that my weight is on the back end of the saddle but I can still shift my weight forward and sit on the nose going up hill. I am thinking that if my weight is more toward the rear then the saddle is pretty much constantly taking torsional forces, rather than if my weight were central.

I know its a personal thing but wondered what peoples opinion on the ideal saddle position is?

No idea. He said three, not me.
Although I do remember telling someone to buy round rubbery tyres, which was probably helpful.
