Bleeding after a leak.

Well accidentally managed to pop one of my pistons out while my wheel was off, that'll teach me not to use a pad spacer...
Anyway, long story short, fluid leaked out, and now obviously the brake doesn't work. I think I've figured out how to bleed the brakes when they have the correct amount of fluid in but how do I go about bleeding/refilling the brake without overfilling it?
The brakes are Avid Elixirs if that makes a difference.
