Looking for a training plan

Hi all,

Can anyone recommend a good website with (preferably free) training plans, I did my first sportive this week and whilst I really enjoyed it I was wiped out on the first of many hills. Covered 63 miles in 4 hours 35ish. Ideally next year I want to get into the 3 hour 30/40ish range. I'm still quite young, love cycling just need a plan to follow. I know diet is key and I'm back on the wagon as of now (downing last coke as I type!).

I don't have a turbo trainer, have my road bike for the weekends and MTB with slicks for commuting, unfortunately I don't have many hills in the immediate area I guess most of my training would be interval based but not sure. Miles wise I do 30 miles on a Saturday, 50 on a Sunday. Commute about 3 days a week on a 12 mile (total) journey.

I've looked at a few websites but some seem less than great, open to suggestions, thanks. :-)

  • Try and do your commute in a gear which makes your leg muscles burn like crazy for the whole journey. You'll pick up more strength for the hills.

    Either that or do good old fashioned PT. Pick up something heavy and then stand up, squat down and repeat until you callapse in lactose butn agony. Repeat daily.

    You mean ride harder? Riding at low cadence to try to increase strength is just silly.

    The guy needs to get fitter, not stronger so squats won't help much either.

    If only it wasn't terrible advice.
