MTB Rim - is this salvagable (pic attached)

Hi Everyone,

Managed to upgrade my worst-ever MTB experience to mild-concussion and possibly broken thumb.
Worse still ..... I have completely twatted my front rim.

Now being a novice, but obviously an enthusiastic one, can anyone advise if I'm wasting my time in even considering having the rim looked at, or do I just chuck it out and buy a new one?

Which leads me to my next question ..... I'm on a specialised pitch pro (lack of ability permitting).
If I do have to replace the rim, which a 'DT Swiss 445D, 32-hole', what would be the recommendation?

Can I invest in something and shave some weight off (tubeless?), or will that effect the balance of the overall trip?

Help appreciated.

It might be recoverable but unlikely, and either way won't last long when straightened from that as your spokes will be shot. I'd recommend a stans flow for your next rim.

Looks like you did a proper job on it! I have those rims with the ground control 2bliss ready tyres running them tubeless with no issues, stans will be an upgrade though so could be a good excuse! how did you do it?
  • Well comedy of comedies, I was the last of four riders on a singletrack when I out of character launched myself up an embankment having no idea what was on the other side. As daft as that sounds, I was about 50 metres behind another bloke who had taken the same path. Funnily enough (or not!) he knew what he was doing, and literally popped up the ramp, landed without issue and picked up the trail. For whatever reason, my inner Evil Kineval took over. End result I went massively aeriel, right over the path I was supposed to pick up and across into an elevated section of green stuff. Obviously landed near enough head-first, taking out my front rim in the process and smashing my helmet for good measure.

Its all a bit of a blur from there onwards ......

    Hope your OK after that.....

May be worth straightening as a spare, but I think that has had it!

Stans flow are a good call, you could get a rim rebuilt on your hub or just get a new one.
