Do we cycle or do we bike?

When I have just thrown myself down the back of a hill bouncing off bits of granite and slogged through ankle deep mud somehow I don't feel right saying I have been cycling.
At th risk of offending a few forumites (like I am bothered) cycling feels more like something you do in lycra, Biking (capital is a mans sport...
Edit to add ride/riding .

When i am off road i am mountain BIKING, however I CYCLE to work, incidentally on the same bike currently. I think being a cyclist is more of a "big picture" term as well. Loads of different disciplines within that big picture - I choose mountain biking!0

Manly Bikers with hairy chests ride motorcycles and wear leather so you are a nancy cyclist with a secret desire to wear lycra.I don't do smileys.

Mounting Biking - 'I'm going out on the bike', wouldn't say biking
Anything Else - 'I'm going for a cycle'0 -
I ride, I don't cycle or bike.
"I'm going for a ride"
"Who fancies a ride"
"That was a good ride"
Any other word sounds stupid.0 -

Hadn't thought about it before, but I seem to say, "I'm going cycling" to the other-half (no interest in bikes), and "going biking/for a ride" with other riders.0

saying that when I take the Snap out for a ride 'round town I say "I'm going out on the bike" ...hmmm, apparently for me to go riding it has to be on a mountain/dirt track not on tarmac/pavement :?"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Bike, biking, cycling, cyclist, mountain biker, road rider, whatever.
However, not just BIKER. That term is for motorcyclists only in my opinion. You only need two tools: WD40 and Duck Tape.
If it doesn't move and should, use the WD40.
If it shouldn't move and does, use the tape.0 -

Apparently they are the only beings on earth who understand the mint sauce comics, without just pretending to to look like they're down with the kids.
Also, going for a ride, or going out on the bike.
Or "going on the turbo for a bit" but we don't talk about that kind of thing round here.0 -
