Here she is with the new bits fitted. Forks were lighter than advertised, coming in at 318 grams with the steerer cut to 225mm. The Hope headset seems to sit on the fork nicely. I can't make my mind up on the white Charge Knife saddle, I do have a black on stand by though.
Edit: Just stuck the black Charge Knife on and it looks better.

What was the reason for the fork swap pastey? The EC90SL and Controltech Lightening are both on my fork shortlist.

At first it was purely cosmetic but it turns out the Controltech fork is lighter yet seems to be more solid and the legs are wider/fatter, plus the crown diameter is the same as the hope headset I've fitted. I seem to have got the last pair from Chainreaction as they were discontinued as soon as I had purchased them. Still a few others selling them but you will pay a bit more.

Bollocks, that's what happens when you procastinate! Been looking at them on offer at CRC.

I know ,I have a bit of tuning to do regarding stem height and length, My ailing back is finally getting stronger and I'm getting more flexibility into it so I may go longer and a bit lower.

Just need the bars rotating down a bit and shifters adjusted accordingly.
You may well find that you can use the drops better then too. In fact the way to set bars is to have them on just loose enough to move, get on the turbo and find the angle at which you are comfy on the drops, tighten then attach shifters...

I think this would suit the brown charge saddle, brown leather bar tape and black tyres with natural sidewalls..

I was eyeing up a pair of challenge tyres with gumwalls as I think they would look nice against the ceramic rims but I'm happy with the looks for the time being, and the dsp bartape at £23 a pop can stay put too.

Just ordered a pair of Michelin Pro Endurance tyres for the coming months. Also got some new FSA super cnc chainrings which should match my Sram Red cranks nicely as well as shifting a bit better and lasting longer. Also got a titanium bolt kit for my Easton EC90 seatpost and some new Aztec blocks for my ceramic coated rims.

Here she is with the latest bits on apart from the tyres which aren't here yet. As you can see the brake blocks and titanium bolts have had a massive impact on the look of the bike 8)

Got the Michelin Pro 4 Endurance tyres fitted today and they look much better in my opinion. Also swapped the Foss tubes for a pair of Vittoria ultralights which offset the weight gained for the tyre swap a bit, only gained 20 grams a wheel but for the added durability its a small price to pay. The chainset was bugging me as it looks too black so off came the FSA chainrings with zero miles on them and on went a set of Dura-Ace 7800 silver rings with a set of black Kcnc chainring bolts. The rings match nicely with the silver brakes and headset and the added bonus is that they shift even better than the previous set-ups. I now have the bike both looking and riding exactly as I want it to and I will now leave well alone. Will add pics of the fully finished bike tomorrow.

Brilliant, the attention to detail is outstanding. The red chainset seems to match the frame.

Where do you get all these little blingy bits like blue barrel adjusters?

I also want to thank you for the very entertaining previous thread which I read just now! Forum classic!

Thanks for the kind words. The blingy blue bits are a culmination of many years hoarding, but if you want to bling your bike without trawling the internet then these fellas should be able to help as they seem to have every part you can think of in a multitude of colours, cheap shipping too. http://www.torontocycles.com/

I noticed a lot of brake rub coming from the rear wheel. checked brake set up and all seems fine yet still it rubs. Then I try the bike with the wheel release open all the way and still it's rubbing even though there is quite a large gap either side of the wheel. I handbuilt the wheels myself and know them to be pretty flex free so that's not an issue. The frame itself is know for being stiff so I ruled that out which left the quick release skewer as the culprit. The skewer is one of these superlight titanium 45grams a pair jobbies from the far east that are flooding the market. They seem nicely made and have a smooth action but when swapped it over for a standard chromo skewer all flex a brake rub instantly disappeared, I even set my brakes so they were almost touching the rim and still no rub. It is quite alarming just how much flex came from the skewer. I think I will stick with the standard skewers and the extra 50 grams that entails.

  • Nice.

I'd de-sticker the wheels and have black bar tape, but other than that pretty good!

As the the bike neared completion I did regret going with the blue bits so on my next lot of changes all the blue bits will be removed and replaced with black. Not a great deal to change really, just the cable ferrules, front mech band, bartape, pedals, valve caps, stem bolts and cable crimps. I am also considering getting the frame brushed as I prefer the look of brushed Ti over the matt look. I will get some use out of the fitted bits before I go changing everything again.

Decided to totally ditch the blue theme so just ordered a load of black bits inc Lizard skins dsp tape, controltech carbon topcap and expander, titanium ahead spacers, Kcnc black braze on adapter, black alloy presta valve caps, black kcnc alloy cable ferrules, black ti stem bolts and some token downtube adjusters. Also need to order some black middleburn cable oilers. I have just swapped the outer dura ace ring for a ti coloured sram force version which looks much better. Pics when all the bits arrive. Only blue bits remaining will be the speedplays but i like them so they can stay .

This Cube looks really cool. I really want to see it black and brown theme would be nice too. Sorry about stealing your thread but what do you think about size 60 Cube HPT Titanium (seat tube 560mm, top tube 556mm) for 186,5cm (6' 1") with 88cm (34,7") inseam and long hands, 194cm reach (is it correct term?)? I just bought size 57 bianchi infinito (seat tube 540mm, top tube 547mm) frame and now I'm wondering will I sell it and buy one of these...

Hi ,I am 5ft10 and the 58 fits me as it is in the pics with a 80-100mm stem (still playing with different set ups) The 60 should be ok for you but the cube sizing is a bit strange, I took a gamble on the frame but it seems to have paid off. It's very hard to be 100% sure without actually sitting on one.

Bars need rotating to get the drops level with the floor whilst your tinkering with the other stuff.

Here she is with all her new black bits and new outer chainring. I am going to remove the blue graphics from the frame leaving only the white bits. I reckon the bike looks more business like and dare I say classier.

Thought I had finished but in amongst my spares I found an old 31.6mm titanium seat post with ti bolts and a carbon cradle, it was slightly marked so I gave it a quick buff with some very fine emery cloth and it's come up like new. It is also slightly lighter than the easton post, so on it has gone. Looks much nicer and should be just as comfy. Will get some pics up when I get some day light.
