What is the best Hardtail Mountain Bike betweem the following:
Genesis 26.2
Specialized Rockhopper 2012
Decathalon Btwin Rockrider 8.1
Scott Aspect 630 2013
Any others you'd recommend I look at? Looking for something that can handle steep ascents and descents, lightweight, reasonably good forks and good value for money.

RR is excellent VFM and would be my choice. Also try the Voodoo Hoodoo. That's the stock answer.2011 Carrera Fury

At £850 that's not in a £450-600 budget!Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

£499, not the 850 modelA Flock of Birds

RRP is still £650, and from what I've seen of RST air forks I'd steer clear....Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.0

If you could stretch your budget by another £130ish the Radon ZR Team 7.0 looks like amazing spec & weight for the money.

waby - unfortunately the hoodoo is unavailable to me as it is only sold through halfords which are not part of the cyclescheme that my employer uses. Good bike granted though a little on the heavy side, I do like the colour of it a lot and would be tempted if it was available but for the weight.
Would be interested to fill in the gaps on weight for the below:
Radon ZR Team 7.0 - Weight??? (Is this available through Cyclescheme?)
Genesis 26.2 Weight???
Specialized Rockhopper 2012 29.3Lbs / 13.32KG?
Decathalon Btwin Rockrider 8.1 Weight???
Scott Aspect 630 2013 13.6KG / 30Lbs
Cheers,

Looks like the Radon ZR is way out of my price range though weight looks excellent. Not sure on the rest of the spec as I can't read Jerry. What kind of fork are they using is it any good? Will have to cross that off the list.0

KHS is £499 direct from KHS.
I'm a beginner so couldn't tell you if the fork was rubbish or not, just read the decent review and liked the weight compared to the Voodoo.0 -
12.1kg / 26.75lbs for 17" according to What Moutain Bike?0

RR is 12.85 kg (I think that's for an M size frame).
I can thoroughly recommend the 8.1. I love mine anyway.0 -
