Had a bit of painting to do, family were out, so I decided to play an old CD that I hadn't heard for years. I chose Simple Minds 'Glittering Prize'. Except for a couple of tracks, it is totally brilliant. Great how these old CDs still sound good and remind just why you bought them in the first place.

Any of you guys replayed a gem after years of gathering dust? If so, what was it?

If I guess right, then Glittering prize is a "best of" and probably doesn't count as a body of work IMHO.

Look out New Gold Dream. One of my all time favourites.

Others to look for and consider but your tastes will probably vary.....

The Allman Brothers - Live at the Filmore East.
    Radiohead - The Bends
    Massive Attack - Blue Lines
    Paul Simon - Graceland
Thin Lizzy - Live and Dangerous
Dire Straits - Brothers In Arms
Echo & The Bunnymen - Porcupine
    The Specials - The Specials
Talking Heads - Stop Making Sense
Fleetwood Mac - Tango In The Night
    Supertramp - Breakfast In America
The Blue Nile - A Walk Across The Rooftops

Must be something in there for everyone!
None of the above should be taken seriously, and certainly not personally.

I've just rediscovered Word Gets Around by The Stereophonics. I loved it when it came out but their follow up was shit and I lost interest.

The CD has a dirty great scratch on it which has ruined Local boy in the photograph which is a shame.

One of the first CDs I bought was Pearl Jam's Ten. Every now and again I'll dust that down and it still sounds pretty good to me.

Didn't discover this album till a couple of years ago when my MP3 was flat and I punched HID's. I dismissed Pearl Jam in the past cos a couple of songs I'd heard were a bit gash. A little before my discovery of this album I turned down the chance to see them in Manchester. Regrettably.

Something i find myself listening to a lot is Strength by The Alarm, released in 1985 although I reckon it'd hold its own today.

I've been listening a lot recently to Ahead rings out by Blodwyn Pig. Love it, hadn't heard it for years and found it in a boot sale.

    Sugar - Copper Blue
Mainly because I heard stuff from Bob Mould's new album on 6music. Then I went out and bought reissues of Sugar's Beaster and F.U.E.L. Also introducing my wife to this stuff and Husker Du.

Also rediscovering Helmet; Disagreeable, Unsung and Driving Nowhere are awesome songs.

Played 'The Queen is Dead' the other week for the first time in years, still a cracking album. Followed it up by digging my copy of 'Hatful of Hollow'. The Smiths really do stand the test of time!!

I recently dug out Brain Salad Surgery (Emerson Lake and Palmer for you young pups out there) and enjoyed that whilst doing the bike. Space Ritual by Hawkwind is still worth a full spin, as is Out Of The Blue by ELO and one I hadn't played end to end for yonks until Johny Walker did a feature on it the other week was Never Mind The Ollocks, as he insisted on calling it.

Going For The One is also excellent. Yes. The band, not the affirmative.
  • Recently had a re-listen to ACDC Dirty Deeds Done Dirt Cheap. Great. Bon Scott at his sleaziest.
