Possible self explanatory but i though id ask anyway.

My bike currently has a 11 x 36 cassette. I'm looking to get a new one to put on a new wheel and at the same time fit a new chain. So, can i just get a 11 x 34 or an 11 x 32 ratio cassette? And is it just the top sprocket that is different with these 3? And if i get a low number will it just mean that it wont be as good at climbing or is there something else i should know?

Thanks.

  • The smaller the largest sprocket, the closer the ratio of each gear is . This means there won't be quite as much of a significant difference between each gear compared to your current cassette, at the expense of having an easier gear to go uphill with. If you find you do not use the 36t sprocket, then count the largest one that you currently use, and get a cassette to suit

Depends what you run at the front really.

    As an 11-36 has a 32t 9th sprocket, clearly an 11-32 won't as well!

Yes a smaller largest rear sprocket will make climbing harder!
