Headed out to work on Thursday, got about 100yeards up the street then heard the noise of escaping air, got home and stuck a tube in, one of those Joes "no flats" jobbies, came back from work and remembered I had another brand new "no flats" tube, so I fitted to the other wheel. Safe in the knowledge that I was safe from punctures I headed to work, on the way home I got that familiar squishy feeling from the back end, white goopy stuff was fizzing out from around the valve, in 20 seconds, the tyre was flat, pushed home and took the wheel out, the valve was fine, nothing stuck in the tyre except a load of the sealant in the bottom of it, meaning I had to wash the damn thing out before I put the old tube in. All I could see was one wee tiny nick in the tube, about 1mm.

I've came to two conclusions........

1. The P Fairy will strike when she wants to, no matter what you do.

2. Self-sealing tubes are as much use as a chocolate teapot!

    I found quick sealing tubes are useless for raod bike tyre pressures as the sealant leaks out to quick to set.

    better to buy mini floor pump and switch tube around, I have a mini floor pump cost 20£ never looked back, always keep a spare tube with me and repair the damaged tube at home, takes 2 mins to replace tyre and pump bike up, also invest in puncture resistant tyres, the sealents are crap, I used one and it just waists time and money.

    It's on the Vee 1, so it wasn't over 60psi, the original tube is fixed, won't bother with sealant again, just doesn't work. I have continentals on my hybrid, supposedly puncture protected, first puncture was 11 miles after fitting, seems that wee niggly bits of glass will penetrate anything.

    A mate had some sealent tubes in an MTB, one thorn and all he had was a tyre full of white goo...... The Dr Slime ones are meant to be a lot better though!
    Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

    I think they are rubbish too; tyre choice is the thing to consider.

    as said decent tyres are the way forward
    been using some vittoria pros all year, done about 1000miles with only one mishap
    .....and you should see the crappy back roads i commute on :shock:
