Superlight cable routing

Hi
I'm trying to fit a gear cable to a 2002 Santa Cruz Superlight frame. It looks like it goes through the pivot axle and on to the swinging arm. Does it need a special gromit or something as a normal gromit wouldn't fit into anything, it will just lie against a flat surface. Or does the cable tension hold it in place?
I tried searching the web but couldn't find anything. Any advice appreciated, thanks!
