Well after several years off the bike with one thing and another I'm now getting back into it. I started off riding xc years ago and then moved onto the downhill and slalom but getting older and slowly more sense I'm going back toward the xc.
So changed a few things on the slalom bike and tried that for a bit to see if I enjoyed it like I used to. (sorry for the crappy phone pics. I'll get the slr out in a few days)

Well after loving things I came to the conclusion that it was a little short and small for doing mileage on. So onto ebay and found a nice little buy of a frame and started to move things across, 2 hours later impressed with the build.

After the first ride I loved it but thought a couple of things needed updating.

After loving the carbon post I thought I'd have a look and see what I could find. Down at the LBS one day I saw these and thought why not and a small gift from a friend of a hope stem.

With things slowly feeling better and better I thought it was about time I got rid of the heavy duty tyres and purchased some nobby nic. After a really good session in the mud I liked them alot and after playing with the pressures could trust them alot even with the wet roots.
Well after some time of things starting to wear on the chaindrive I thought it was about time the old 8spd went and updated a few things. So a couple of puchases of sram x9 shifters and 980 cassette and sram chain with middleburn rings and all is good again.
So spec so far is
Frame: GT avalanche expert
Fork: 2001 rockshox pslyo XC 125-80mm. now running 100mm
brakes: hayes nines 180 front and 160 rear
wheels: atomlab sealed rear and no name spare front on nobby nics
Cranks: 1998 AC cranks with double middleburn slick shift rings
head set: cane creek semi intergrated
stem: hope 120 10deg 25.4 reversed
bars: easton monkey lite
chain drive: sram 980 cassette and chain (9spd)
mechs: sram x9 rear and xt front
saddle and post: easton ea70 carbon, spoon cromo saddle
sorry if i've missed anything of the list.

Niice. I'd get ride of the hayes 9s for something else, modern brakes are so much better!

Also awaiting photos of the 222, I love old oranges and just got rid of a 223 after cracking it. :)

Can't go too far wrong with formula/shimano/avid elixirs in my experience. (my formulas are awesome brakes when maintained properly).

I've got a set of the current XT brakes, they're really good. Much better than the others I've used.
I love horses, best of all the animals. I love horses, they're my friends.

    Much nicer than Avids....

Just swapped off Juicy5's on mine (which to be honest the latest XX feels no different to!) for the last Gen XT which are stronger and more progresive (thank you servowave)
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
