Hey, yesterday i bought some components to complete my custom bike built. This season I ended up with 29er with no-name frame, and I decided to built something better, so I bought Cube Reaction frame with stock Rock Shox Reba fork, Easton stem. More upgrades coming soon, I want bike weight around 10 kg, so the first will be wheelset, because this wheelset actual weight is around 2kg.

Nice bike. Mad weight for a 29er. Id amagine shaving the last 500g will be pretty costly wheel wise?

I'm thinking about ZTR Crest on Superstar Switch EVO hubs and DT spokes. So i will be able to save about 300g, 100g from pedals, if I change my shimano toward CB Eggbeaters. I have time to upgrade - till spring I want to end my bike upgrading. Of course, money is the biggest problem.

If you are looking for lighter pedals it may pay to look at these http://www.bike-discount.de/shop/k417/a ... l?mfid=493. On the scales mine come out at 276g, which, for a £30 set of pedals is silly light. Had mine for a few months now and loving them. Quite a nice bit of float on them which i like and use SPD cleats.

Nice. I'll think about it. But i'm goint to exchange my shimano pedals to Eggbeater C without surcharge.

  • I've considered the idea of not making ww bike, because i enjoy my wheelset - it's indestructible. Mby anybody have ideas what should i change for better looking and performance?

  • In local bike shop i can get Magura MT4 brakeset without rotors for 120 pounds. What do u think, it's better than my Shimano SLX brakeset? I know that Magura brakes ar lighter, but how about performance?

You would shed less than 100g. The MT4 wont be as powerful. They are nice brakes though from all i have read and seeing others recommendations, but i really dont think its worth it as the SLX are that good.

You could shed almost the same weight from the stem with a KCNC one cheaply. KCNC rotors or Aligator ones.

Your stuff is pretty high end so its going to be expensive to weenie this further.

This site has all the verified weights and could give some ideas.

  • Okay, then i maybe shouldn't change my brakeset. Last months I was thinking about weightweenie stuff, but I think my bike is light enough for me, now i want to make it riding well for xc competitions.

And if we speak about KCNC stuff - i don't like design of these products. I love how shimano 2-piece rotors looks like.

  • I used KCNC as a cheap alternative to illustrate that you can lose the same kinda weight by swapping the stem and rotors for less than £50. The stem stands out as a lower end component on that bike for sure. Xcracer has some nice light stuff.

The weenie thing is great till you get to your stage and then it gets silly expensive and your returns are at a minimum. That shop i linked has some crazy light and expensive stuff, but its a good guide.
  • But if i decide to swap brakes, i need about 35 pounds to upgrade, because i can sell my slx's. But its not the point. Maybe i need just to safe my money for while and then buy XTR brakeset. But thanks Penguin, i will check that shop. But i love the fact that i live in country where all cycling stuff is pretty cheap, but of course, i dont have such a large selection of parts here.

Yes, my Easton stem is heavyweight, but i like how it looks. Wheelset, pedals, stem and maybe brakeset is what i want to change. And convert to tubeless system.

Find buyer to my Fulcrum wheelset so next week try to make new wheelset with ZTR Arch EX rims because im almost 100kg rider and scared of buying ZTR Crest. Make rims on Novatec D711SB/D722SB (410g for both hubs) hubs and Sapim Race spokes (silver perhaps because there is problem with finding black ones) So it will be 1.7kg wheelset.

And my friend want my Shimao Ice-Tech rotors so i decided to put KCNC rotors on my bike. I would like to build 9.9kg bike if not chaing fork to carbon rigid, but if i'll buy carbon rigid fork - under 8.9kg untill this summer.

    Updates coming soon!

A couple days ago i bought ZTR Arch EX rims + Novatec hubs and spent about 210£. Now my wheel parts are in LBS for building with Sapim Race Silver spokes. This will be a 1.7kg wheelset, i guess.

Next week i should pick up my KCNC rotors from another LBS.
Now i have only NoTubes RimTape and universal valve.

After this upgrade i would like to buy new brakeset. I think Magura MT6 is good enough.

Couple days ago i got my wheelset. The biggest problem was getting spokes here. Now im running tubeless with NoTubes system. The weight of my bike is 10.15kg, but i want to get it under 10kg. Need to buy new stem, new brakeset or other lightweight stuff.
