As per title, I decided to swap my pedals around between my two bikes, unfortunately one of my Look Keo max2 pedals appears to be seized. Its the non drive side and according to the literature it should loosen anti-clockwise...but isn't. Any help appreciated otherwise I'll leave the pedals where they are.

First, spray some WD40 on it and leave overnight. Then put a spanner on it and tap the spanner with a small hammer, this should unlock it. Dont try and push the spanner with your hands, if its locked up you wont do it, you need a bit more force.

Once you get it off, always put a a piece of PTFE white tape (the stuff plumbers use) around the thread of the pedal before screwing a new pedal back in. The tape stops pedals from locking up and protects the thread from wear and water.

Non drive side pedals unscrew clockwise.

(unless you're looking at it from the other side of the bike)

Allen key and a bit of pipe/conduit to give it leverage, unless it doesn't have an Allen key fit.
  • Thanks guys, at least now I'm pulling in the right direction. Soaking in WD40 overnight and will have a go tomorrow.
Must borrow a piece of piping from someone!

  • The lbs unable to free Look pedal without doing damage to himself or the bike. Oh well I didn't really want to change the pedals anyway!

I'd try a better penetration fluid like PlusGas or ACF50 - it'll be down to corrosion of the bare aluminium thread I suspect.
Make mine an Italian, with Campagnolo on the side..
  • Thanks Monty.....have ordered PlusGas from Amazon and will advise outcome. The pedal functions perfectly and only discovered this when I decided to swap for other pedals

Stick crank arm with pedal in the freezer overnight then quickly heat the crank arm up ?

I know it is sadly too late now but this is what anti-seize compound is for.

    Next time perhaps...
  • Tell that to the shop that provided the bike and pedals!!
