Right, pick my new now up tonight and managed to score a £70 discount, however, bike to work voucher is set so have 70 quid to spend on accessories. Other than quick release seatpost clamp, bottle cage, bottle and possibly a tool kit looking for any other suggestions for things I WILL need but haven't realised yet!

Thanks in advance!

    helmet and gloves!
  • Mini Pump with Schrader/Presta valve for the inevitable flats. Inner tubes. Shockpump. Breathable waterproof jacket (easily £70 on its own). Sealskinz waterproof socks. Gloves. Camelback. Multitool. The lists endless... GoPro camera, cycle specific shorts, cycle glasses, Lights etc etc etc.
Gear easily can cost more than an expensive bike.

bike carrier for car if you are riding trail centres - so much easier than trying to lob a bike in your boot _ buying a towbar rack was the best thing i ever did, as getting the bikes in and out of the boot of our car caused the most arguements between the me and the misses

Personally i dont have one or care for one but at a lot of people do.

You take a shock pump every time you ride?

Yup. Force of habit after having previous set-up issues. Mainly other people borrow it now.

Can you get cake on the cycle to work scheme? £1,000 buys a lot of Lemon Drizzle.

Only must haves in that list are

    Pump,
    Multitool,
    Inner tubes.

This is all I carry round a trail centre/small loop, together with lid, water bottle and gloves.

Edit. Even then you can throw caution to the wind and leave the tube, tool and pump at home!

It wasn't just me; I was sure it said ride when I first posted, hence altering my post.

Neither a waterproof jacket nor Seal Skins are essential for a rider, nor is a Camelbak. Only need a shockpump if you've got air forks/shocks too.

No I posted after the edit.

I only got some sealskins last year, mangaged without for the first 19 years. Sure it's nice to have dry feet but it's not a must have.

The things you must have to go MTBing are quite few buts there's plenty of gear that helps.

    Like cake.

    Time to ride

    ... and scars...

But if you've got the former, you'll be getting the latter!

Edit: more seriously I would put a chain tool high up on the list (or at least a multi-tool with a chain tool in it). I've never used mine for me, but have rescued two guys who would otherwise have had a long push home - one of whom was trying to get his chain back together by using a rock as a hammer.

I disagree. Before your first scar/s you are just riding an MTB not an MTB Rider

...If you use a decent set of flat pedals this should take about 5mins
