I have an alfine geared bike on which the chain recently snapped so need to get a new one. The problem is that I have no idea what size of chain it would be it doesn't look like a SS chain to me so does anyone have any idea what size chain I'll need to get to replace it?

I use a KMC 8 speed chain on my Alfine equipped bike. Model is X8-93.

Runs very well and lasts ages.
  • Shimano recommends 8 and 9 speed chains for different configurations:

    Chain Tensioner S500 (looks like a pully from a derailleur with 2 jockey wheels) + sprocket S500 = HG73, HG53, KMC X9 series.

Chain tensioner S510 (one jockey wheel that is covered)+ gear = HG50, HG40, KMC X8 series, KMC Z8 or Z7.
