Bought this little beauty a couple of months ago...

p4pb8747855.jpg

im not too sure of the year... as online the Giant archives stop before i can find a pic of this...

but specs are as follows....

50cm frame
53 & 39 tooth rings up front
25 - 12 in the back
Carbon fork (Giant branded, not too fussed about finding out the mfr)
1 1/8 threadless steerer.
Shimano WH-R500 wheels front and back
175mm Truvativ ELITA cranks
Pro XLT stem
boggo Giant bars
(The two of above to be swapped with a Deda Zero 1 stem and new bars TBA)
Tiagra groupset 9speed (flight deck model)
Superstar Carbon TI QR's
Superstar Headset spacers
Shimano PD-M530 on the bike at the mo....
Shimano PD-R540 to be fitted once i get shoes and cleats.

mint condition....bar a couple of chips from the pump on the frame and no cable rub as far as i can see....
had to replace the braze on as it cracked when i was indexing the gears, but otherwise a joy to ride.... superlight compared to my 29er hardrock so i can at least mix it with the other roadies from the lax team this season :)

going to give it a respray in the winter here.... matt black as it is now... but i work with an ex signwriter/pinstriper so will see if he will do me something special on the frame to set it apart from the norm! 8) text and striping will be in red and white to match what it used to be.

P.S. what do you think of the wrap job on the bars? first shot at it...... will do better with the new bars once ordered and delivered.

Its funny how things are coming full circle..

Giant haven't had an aero road race bike in their range for a good few years.. and they're supposed to be releasing one for 2013.

Nice bike though! I love Giants. I'd be tempted to pick one up second hand as a winter bike.

Cheers .... I was having trouble dating it as all the info online was saying the only black painted aero like mine was an aero 1..... Where did you find out about it? Cos I'm a bit OCD and would like to have a wee pile of info I can refer to on it.

fingers crossed the bars i have my eye on are still available at payday....74% savings is an awesome buy.... heres hoping..... cos i really want to put my fancy stem on it :)

    Everything fitted and working correctly..

    my goodies :
    p4pb8813123.jpg

fitted and looking sweet. IMHO...... i know the stem stands out like a mutts nuts..... but it will get a respray along with the bike in winter....

    p4pb8821267.jpg

i am very proud of my wrap this time.... and it is super comfy.... (Zipp bar tape if anybody is interested)

the new bar and stem knocked off 165g from the originals which will lighten up the front end a treat  trying to teach myself to not pull up on the bars when cranking it as ive nearly toppled myself a few times already!

Time to go out and rack up some K's 8)

It's nice tape, but you have applied it a little wrong. You shouldn't need to apply electrical tape to the end of the bar, if wrapped correctly you should leave a little overlapped with the end of the bar which tucks into the inside of the bar, and the bar end plug will keep it in place. Also, it looks like you have used the little strips of bar tape over the top of the main tape behind the levers, it should be applied underneath with the main tape wrapped in a figure of eight over the top and around the shifter, leaving no exposed bar and less risk of the tape slipping.

Hope this makes sense, and helps!

the overlap at the end wasnt playing ball so the tape went on as an extra just in case..... and i put the strips on the outside as i am toying with the idea of putting in the flight deck computer and gubbins ... so dont want to have to retape again..... but i might have to thinking about it now if i want the wires hidden..... bugger

i appreciate the advice tho!! :D

Well worth it! You'll get the right model for very little from ebay, especially if you look in the USA. The cadence function is excellent for training.

  • Ouch, get better quickly, sorry to see you had a bit of an off there.

Bike is indeed an 03 or 04. I have an 02 Aero TCR which doesn't have the aero seat tube.

The first picture at the top illustrates how far bar curve design has come in 10 years - look at the massive radius of the hooks, you'd have to rotate the bar down and move the levers way up to get a decent wrist angle that didn't kill you after 30 mins.

Nowadays, with 3T ergonova, FSA compacts, Deda RHM, etc. comfort has come a long way since we were riding 66 or 63 bend Cinellis back in the mid-80s.

cheers for the year of bike!! been bugging me...... i love my new Kore bars..... and i only bought them cos i had a slightly shorter stem in my box of bits i wanted to try to bring the position back a tad as the original stem had me straining the bottom of my back when on the drops.... so by sheer luck... the first attempt at sorting out the cockpit has resulted in the comfiest position i could want.... it has surprised me how much 10mm in length difference can change the way the bike feels :D goon breeze through my charity ride in January now......

Man, that is one mental crash! What is going on there, is that a post stuck in the middle of a cycleway? What is it there for?
  • Yeah... It's to stop clowns driving down the shared paths with cars... There was an access point for council vehicles just behind me.. I'm looking through local department specs to see if there should have been warning markers before it.... We shall soon see....

  • got an awesome deal through work...... Garmin products at a very generous price.... so i thought it would be rude of me not to get something.......................... needless to say the change jar was raided and this was the outcome :D

    p4pb9015485.jpg

so now the bulky and weighty, old wired speedo has been removed and my aerodynamic profile has decreased...... so i will obviously be approximately 0.000002435 kmh quicker on a downhill.

    maiden voyage tomorrow night

Ok so its had a lot of K's put on it since the last post... (and no new crashes) and the time has come to hang up the frame as its getting swapped with a new lovely carbon frame..... the question is.... do i sell the frame or keep it and build it into a commuter?
