I have a tool identical to the one pictured below, It fits SRAM and Shimano mountain bikes, will it work with my Campag?

I think you'll need a Campag tool, they're not compatible with the Shimano spline pattern.

Campag have wider splines and narrower grooves. The shimano one may work on it or may just round of the edges if it slips. Best to get the Campag one for a tenner since it is one of the tools you will reuse fairly often.

Shame. I was hoping to save the money but oh well. Cheers
  • You will need all new tools for Campag bits. It's cos of the 'soul' or something.

I have a genuine Campag cassette tool which also fits Campag higher end traditional bottom brackets (eg Chorus and Record). Cost me about a tenner.

But it also fits Shimano and SRAM cassettes and old fashioned Shimano and Sunrace screw-on freewheels - just used it today to take freewheel off my wife's electric bike. I've never had any problems.

So I reckon it's worth OP checking whether his cassette tool works with Campag as well.

Will do. Just waiting for the motivation to go stand in the rain and fix the bike!

I have both cassette tools for 10 and 11 speed campag, invaluable of course. Shimano is a different thing entirely. As already mentioned, not compatible.

My genuine Campag bottom bracket/cassette tool works on Chorus/Record cartridge bottom brackets and on 9 and 10 speed Campag cassettes. I don't have any 11 speed stuff so can't comment on that.

But I can assure you that it is definitely compatible with Shimano and SRAM stuff. I've just nipped out to the workshop and tried it with a SRAM 9 speed cassette and a Shimano freewheel. It fits fine. I've used it for at least 10 years. Bought it from Parker International when they were still a proper bike shop and the assistant assured me it would work on both Campag and Shimano cassettes.
