Hi All,

Just wondering which type of pad is best? (or does it depend?)

    It depends.......

Lots of muddy riding, use sintered.

Lots of downhill sharges cooking the brakes, use organic

    Bit of both, buy Kevlar.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.

There is no such thing as the "best" type of pad, just the one that is best for the sort of conditions you ride in.

For me it's Kavlar all the way though.

What do you chaps think for Cannock Chase style wet sand? I'm thinking Sintered, or should I go Kevlar?

Sintered if you want them to last as long as possible, but the Kevlars seem to make a lot less noise and are going very well. It'suptoyou...
  • maybe try buying 2xkevlar and 2xsintered (so 1 complete set of each F&R). try them both out. Not like pads are an expensive item.

I started with Sintered, but didn't like them, so now I stick with Kevlar. IMO, the sintered ones just sounded really rough, and they squealed like a mo-fo at even the slightest hint of moisture. Kevlar ones bite better, don't squeal and last pretty much as long in the conditions over here. 'm happy to eat the slight loss of durability as they're so cheap anyway.

Trouble is you can't do that in the multi deals. It's 10 quid a pair of Kevlars or 25 for 4 sets, so it is just stupid not to buy the multi deals. See if you have any mate with the same brakes to split it.

Doesn't have to be the same brakes, just the same compound. You can get four different models if you want as you specify per pad.

Good point. Still mate required, and make sure you get to buy the sintered ;-)

Good point. Still mate required, or you can just save them for when they're needed and it effectively only costs a fiver for the second set, and make sure you get to buy the kevlar ;-)

Cheers chaps. Might give kevlar a go first then and see how long they last, it's not like organics are dying within a couple of rides.
