Campagnolo (right) + Shimano (left) = OK?
Hi, this is my original question that I posted on Facebook on Campagnolo and Campagnolo North America profiles:
"Is there any possibility to replace an original Veloce Power Torque left crank arm with a ShimaNO arm (or any other brand)? Let's say ShimaNO 105 black crank arm.
I hate - HATE ! - this ATROCIOUS Power Torque design (non-drive side arm only!). All the cranksets in the known universe have the same (or at least similar) left crank arm design. Campagnolo is the only company that developed its own crap....!! WHY? Please, why??"
So, is there anybody who can help me with this? Or provide me with some useful ideas on changing the whole Campagnolo Veloce crankset for some other brand. Shimano crankset is not the option here for understandable reasons :-)
My current groupset is black Veloce 2011.

I think it's down to patents Shimano hold. So, is there anybody who can help me with this? Or provide me with some useful ideas on changing the whole Campagnolo Veloce crankset for some other brand. Shimano crankset is not the option here for understandable reasons :-)

Try getting an older 2009 or 2010 Ultratorque Veloce crankset if you want to keep it consistent.0 -
Or go with a square taper crankset. Power torque is not a bad system unless you want to do DIY maintance then the tool cost is prohibitve. I use powertroque but I have a shop full of all the right tools
Veloce and centaur ultra torque cranksets are available NOS. I am ordering later this week if you want one. You still will need special tools to remove the bearings from the shafts and tools to press them on again. I am sure there getto methods of doing the job, again I don't know I have a drawer of tools. If you want simple DIY then get a shimano crankset and live with that. I have a S/H ultetgra crankset in that case that I could let go.http://www.thecycleclinic.co.uk -wheel building and other stuff.0 -
You may be right but when it comes to patents please note that FSA and Rotor (just to name only to brands) seem to have exactly the same solution. It's true that not all of their cranksets incorporate the same patent (I'm still talking about the left crank arm) as Shimano but some of them do.
Campagnolo have always been different and it's starting to get on my nerves just a little bit... But I still remain a die-hard fan! :-)
I find Ultra Torque even worse than PT. It's because of the possibility (well, it does seem possible to me....) of dirt accumulation in the Hirth joint and the inside of the bottom bracket shell. But the UT cranksets installation is really easy I must admit.
I think I will try some of FSA's road cranksets even in spite of their terrible (to me...) looks.0 -
Thanks thecycleclinic but I'm not from any of the English speaking countries... :-) It would be a real pain in the *** for me to order anything from the US, UK etc. Not to mention a payment method and delivery.
Moreover, I'm trying to keep my bike up-to-date (I love modern stuff!) and a square taper crankset is not an option for me. I ride a full carbon frame, full carbon wheelset and alu Deda parts. The entry level Veloce 2012 groupset is sufficient for me, I'm not in a need for a better groupset now. But I have a dream to become a proud user of mechanical Chorus or Record 11 stuff sometime in the not so distant future...0 -
There's Miche chainsets for similar prices to Veloce and Centaur. Deda do one too - but it's not too cheap.0
