Rear Light Question (Li-ion)

I have a Topeak saddle bag which prevents me from mounting a rear light to my seatpost :-( I currently have a cateye TL-LD1100 rear light mounted just about the brake calliper, but I'm looking for a secondary light for extra safety / redundancy (I have a Knog frog as a last resort)

I'm looking for a rear light with a built in Li-ion battery that can be USB recharged. I came across the Lezyne Micro Drive Rear LED but the mount looks like it's designed for fitting to a seatpost ?

Anyone know of any suitable lights that utilise a Li-Ion battery and can be seatstay/chainstay mounted ?

Ta.

Does the saddle bag not have a little strap on it to clip a light to?

Most decent lights have this problem, I've never seen a li-on light that'll attach to a seat stay, the best seat stay mounted like I've ever found is the smart 1/2 watt. Which with a decent set of rechargables got me through a few winters, just grease around the housing and bob's yer uncle.

  • It does indeed. However when I clipped in one of these cateye reflector/LED type lights it pointed ever so slightly downwards which resulted in the reflector not reflecting and the light appearing far dimmer than it should be. Hence why I discounted it as a mounting option.

My smart fastened to my old topeak wedge seat pack facing the right way. I should work for smart.

  • just ordered a smart 1/2 watt from Wiggle ... at a little over £10 it's worth a try, thanks for the suggestion.

Excellent choice sir, it's worth putting a smear of grease around the join in the plastics just for a bit of extra waterproofing.

  • my Smart 1/2 watt arrived today ... excellent little light, very bright, and fits perfectly on the seat stay. I like the fact the mount allows you to adjust the angle it points at so that it can be adjusted for maximum brightness from a cars perspective :-)

I wouldn't recommend pointing straight at eye level, they'll mow you down whilst clutching their burning retinas

A colleague, also a cyclist, thought it wasn't very bright so they picked it up and switched it on whilst looking right at it - think it was about half an hour before they stopped complaining about spots in their eyes. oh how I laughed.
