My good lady is looking to buy a bike and it has came down to two, Trek Lexa - £800 or a Spesh Ruby Compact - £1200.
The Trek has better kit Tiagra etc with an Aluminum frame, where the Spesh Ruby has a Carbon frame but with Sora kit.
So folks, looking for some thoughts/opinions on what she should go for ??

Have you ruled out a Boardman?
Good spec and Women specific bikes.

Yes we have thanks, would rather buy from LBS.0

You're not comparing like with like between two bikes with such a price difference. My wife has the Lexa SLX which has a higher spec Al frame and 105 groupset. After riding that, and the Spesh you mention, and a Synapse 105 she went for the Lexa 'coz it was the best fit and most comfortable.

My wife bought the cube axial wls recently. Alu frame, carbon fork, full 105 and Easton wheels, £950ish, cant remember exact price. she absolutely love it and says it is much "smoother" than her old trek. It really is good value for money.SOLITUDE. It's not for everyone.

Well done to your wife, anyway, I understand they aren't comparable bike prices but that is essentially the choice she has due to sizing issues and availability.
I'm trying to convince her to get the Trek, but she thinks having the carbon frame is better. :?0 -
If you want to support the LBS you could still get the Boardman and walk in the LBS and give them a couple of hundred quid cash for nothing as a present ...and end up with a better bike.
(Cube would be a next choice at that kind of budget)0 -
It depends. Assuming that both bikes fit equally well, and your wife has no plans to upgrade then I'd probably suggest the Trek. But, the Ruby is a very nice frame and worth the upgrade. The only other thing to consider, my wife went with a Tiagra specced bike because it was the only spec she could reach shifters comfortably when riding on the hoods.Ridley Orion0

That's an interesting line, her theory on it is, if she gets the ruby with the carbon frame, she wouldn't upgrade, only on parts if required in future.0 -

To be fair, I think I would let her make the choice then. Or spend a very long time hearing her remind you that YOU got it wrong, and she ended up with second choice. Seems a no brainer to me, even if just for a peaceful life. Let's face it, either bike is very decent.Ridley Orion0 -
Very fair comment, I shall say no more on the choice and be supportive of it. 8)0
