Is it worth paying anymore than 99p on ebay for Jagwire gear cable?

No. Stainless inners, add your own lube.

I was under the impression the Teflon isn't lube, it's like my frying pan?

It's still designed to be low friction as an alternative to lube. Nobody said it was lube.

I have BB routed cables and use the Teflon coated as I find less mud sticks to it, you can't lube that bit (and expect it to stay lubed anyway!)

My race bike has a set of XTR cables that've done 6 seasons. Worth the extra money as long as you keep them clean.
