Where do I find the Serial Number on my Raleigh Record?

I recently purchased a vintage Raleigh Record 12-Speed Road Bike. I wanted to date this bike, which was originally manufactured in the U.K. I cannot find a Serial Number anywhere I've looked on the bike frame. This is the first time I've had this happen in dozens of bikes I've owned. How would one account for a factory-built Raleigh having no Serial Number at all? While it looks like an original Raleigh, with correct decals and other details, I'm no expert, and the absence of a stamped number has me wondering. Any thoughts?
