So what's 'cheap'...? I use Mud-X which are (a) really good, and (b) good value at £45 a pair.Vitus Sentier VR+ (2018) GT Grade AL 105 (2016)

Conti baron in most basic form is only 13 and a great tyre (despite no black chilli etc) heavy though.A Flock of Birds

michelin do a really good one for around a tenner a tyre,
not tried them myself but a few guys i ride with have,Timmo.

If you can find swampthings, the wirebead version is cheap. I think it's been outmoded by a new tyre called the beaver though. No idea on price for that. I run Swampies in the wet, love them.0

I like my Mud-X on my Rockhopper (good in snow as well). I ran some Swampthings on the Trek but haven't ever got on with them; feel like they suck you into the ground when out of the sticky stuff.
To be honest I'm trying to find the mythical do-it-all tyre and compromising accordingly. Riding the Pennines in summer or winter gives you every season and trail condition in a single ride - hence I have some Hans Dampfs on the way.Trek Remedy 7
