X7 rear mech has severe tooth decay so, is it new jockey wheels or splash out on X9 type 2 mech.
Anyone got and used one and is press hype justified?

Not an expert on clutch mechs by any means. But I would think if you have a real problem with chain-slap then it might be worth looking at. Personally on my XC/AM bike I run it 2x10 with a medium cage mech & a Stinger so not a big issue for me there. I'd possibly look at getting a Saint Shadow Plus mech for the DH bike though as the chain on that can slap about a hell of lot on some of the trails"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

I've tried a saint clutch mech and it was excellent, I assume the type 2 works at least as well.0

I've got a Zee clutch mech. I've always had a full chainguide so can't really say I've noticed a difference in chain security, but any noise from chainslap has completely disappeared. I'm tempted to try it just with a topguide up front, as I've heard good things.0

A mates got one on his rocky mountain and the difference is night and day, its mega quiet now having a sounded like a bag of spanners previously, Will definitely get one for both bikes as I run 1x10 but particularly for the 456 which only has a top guide.0

Go for the XT Shadow Plus instead. At least it will last a lot longer. Have one on my bike and have been very impressed with it.0

Denis's Mate, do you run a 10 speed bike?
Still with 9 speed so I guess it's a set of new jockey wheels.0 -

Still worth it in the long run.0 -

I had a SRAM XO type 2 fitted to a whyte 146 to stop chain dropping issues- it did stop the chain coming off but caused a really noticeable clunk through the frame when the suspension compressed. It tries to hold the chain but the movement of the suspension overpowers it and it suddenly let's go with a big 'clunk' didn't work well at all on that bike but may work better on a different suspension linkage. I run an XT + now which works so much better as you can adjust the tension unlike the SRAM models..0

Depends how much of his 9 speed stuff is worn out. Shadow Plus is only on 10 speed mechs0 -
