My daughter would like to do a 4 day ride in November. She is new to cycling so maybe coast to coast might be too much and the weather may be poor.....so any suggestions people. Oh and we are in west yorks so not too southerly !

  • Take the train up to Carlisle ( on the settle carlisle line, the train ride adds to the fun) . Then cycle home on a similar route to the train. Good chance of a tail wind to help her along.

Good call ! Do you happen to know the best route to take ? Obviously not the M6 and A65 !

I would think via Hawes and Grassington. You will know better than me the best route from Grassington back into Leeds.

To get to hawes, in November she will probably do well to take the least exposed route, which I reckon would be vial appleby and Kirby Stephen and Garsdale Head.
To get to Appleby, a look on the map will reveal a choice of routs , the only road to avoid would be the A66. All the others have very little traffic, it's a different world for cyclists than West Yorkshire ( or anywhere south) The old A6 is easy to navigate and not bad for cycling, the lanes on either side of the M6 are, however, nicer .. Out of Carlisle past thwe racecourse and onto Penrith through Hutton End a good option.
There are many roads out of Carlise, it would be worth a look on google streetview to get you on the right one.
