I've taken the first step towards becoming a road cyclist.

Today I fitted road tyres to my MTB. The wheels look a bit strange but I'll get used to them. :?

It should improve my bike for winter training in prep for buying a road bike once the worst of the winter weather is out of the way and I've proved my committment so my wife is convinced I should spend the kids inheritance.

First ride later tonight, I'll see what difference it makes. 8)

It will make a huge difference :)

So can we expect you to be wearing a Merthyr CC kit next year ?
    A punctured bicycle

Will nature make a man of me yet ?
  • Pump 'em up to their max rated pressure (or near) & you should be pleasantly surprised.

I've just switched my MTB tyres back to the big knobblies for my commute, the idea is:

    A) they're tubeless / puncture proof
    B) My commute is only 5 miles each way so it adds a bit of resistance!

It's just the noise that makes me laugh when you try and push it a bit on the road the knobblies don't half get noisy!

There is a long way to go before that.

Got a guaranteed place in the London 100 riding for beating bowel cancer. Lots of weight to lose and fitness/speed/endurance to build.

Good start though. Ridden 80 miles this week and lost half a stone. Rode a route 3 miles an hour faster tonight than last Tuesday. A combination of tyre change and other factors I suspect. :)
