Hiya,

Looking at a pair of these:

For trail & XC usage.

Will full length gloves be too hot in the summer? Are fingerless the way forward and then get a bespoke winter set for the cold months or?

Cheers

That depends on you, I wear full gloves in summer and ski gloves in winter, with a second pair underneath if it's really cold.

Always full length gloves. They'll probably be fine. Only go for winter gloves if you are planning on going out in 1. Heavy Rain 2. Real cold weather. If you get too hot in the summer, get lighter weight full finger gloves. Giro do some awesome winter gloves if you want some of them too.

Yeh - thats a good answer tho - better than a definitive "THESE GLOVES ARE WARM" - so as its coming into winter I might give the full length ones a go and cross the summer when/if it arrives next year.

I have some this Scott Freeride Gloves for summer, some 661 ones (can't remember the type) that I use the vast majority of the time as they are a bit thicker and keep the rain at bay for a while then some really thick Altura ones for when it is pissing it down or less than about 5 celcius.

I could never wear fingerless gloves as my fingers would constanltly be getting stung by nettles or caught by brambles.
  • I have the old version of the Fox Digits - 2010 I think - they are a good summer glove - I wore them for summer riding in 30+ temps in BC - hands were warm but not excessively so. Those newer ones look a little beefier but photos can be deceptive so cant say for sure.

I've got the 2011 Digits and I like them. They are lasting remarkably well.

I wear them year round, almost daily, spring, summer and winter. My other gloves are an Endura winter glove and I've had to use them when out in the hills on sub-zero days, but only twice when commuting (I bottled the thin gloves when it hit well below zero). I've never been too troubled by wet days and wet hands but the Digits do seem reasonably windproof in that kind of weather - and that helps.

I've worn full-fingered gloves exclusively for the last 20+ years - struggling to see the point of open-fingered gloves these days!
