Upgrade brakes on YT Tues?

So the new bike is only a few weeks away now and i'm wondering whether to take advantage of the good deals on rosebikes at the minute.
The Tues has Avid Elixir 3's and while I've never had issues with Avid's (and i've had my fair share of them), recently on downhill days, the Elixir CR's on my Enduro aren't impressing me that much.
Thinking is, rose have the SLX M675 for about £120 and the XT M785 for about a tenner more. I could then sell the Avids straight away as brand new unused to get some money back.
I'm assuming either the SLX or the XT will be a better brake for DH use than the ELixir 3's?
Another question, the XT's on Rose make no mention to ice tech, but when I google the M785, they show the ice tech finned rotors, so are some ice tech and some none ice tech?
Ta.

Many XT brakes come as standard minus rotors - so they could have specced owt really!
Elixir 3 are solid performing brakes, pretty powerful too, but the XT/SLX are getting rave reviews - and ice tech stuff will help on long descents.0 -
Sorry meant to say pads not rotors. I was planning on just keeping the 200mm discs already on the bike.0
-
They should come with the pads.0

see if you click on the other pic, it shows no fins http://www.rosebikes.co.uk/article/shimano-deore-xt-disc-brake-br-m785---servo-wave--/aid:515727
whereas other ads/pics show the finned pads http://www.chainreactioncycles.com/Models.aspx?ModelID=67208&gclid=COeGlvqRyrICFSfMtAod2WMAkA
Just not sure whether they would come with the finned pads as they don;t mention it in the text either.0 -
Hmm, best to email first to clarify.0

Had two sets of xt's from rose and neither came with icetech pads, so im pretty sure thats how they send them out, they did come in a proper shimano box though and all the stuff I'd expect paperwork wise and a few spares for bleeding.
I have to say I love mine on both bikes, I've had a few noise issues recently weirdly only the back brake of both bikes, but a quick rub with some sand paper has sorted it. It has completely stumped me in all honesty though, brakes are fine then I didnt ride the hardtail for abit and the noise of the brakes was unreal. Not heard of this anywhere else though.0 -
Yep - got the M675 from Rose. Just standard pads (guess that's how they keep the price down). I'd swap the Elixir R's on my Session for the SLX in a shot. They really are an amazing brake - especially at those prices. Would've got the XT's but they were out of stock when I was ready to order.
If you could sell the Avid's I'd say it would be a good way to upgrade for not a lot of £££"Why have that extra tooth if you're not using it?" - Brian Lopes

Right, just about to buy some.
The only difference I can see between the SLX and XT is the XT have free stroke adjustment. Is this worth having, or just a gimmick?0 -
I was willing to pay the extra for the XT's just 'cos I prefer the look of them. Maybe they're a bit lighter? Anyway - it's only €10 difference for the set if I remember correctly - gotta go for the XT's, no? Dodge - Don't wanna p1ss on your fireworks but Rose is showing the front XT (M785) brake out of stock for the next 12 weeks.

To be fair, that's another reason I was swinging towards the SLX, as they have them in black. As mentioned, just wondered whether the free stroke adjust was "really" worth it or just a gimmick.0

If it's anything like the free-stroke adjust on the last generation of XT's it will do nothing at all. I've been trying to figgure it out for two years and I can't even work out what it's meant to do.What We Achieve In Life, Echoes In Eternity0
