The frame came to me with a few others i cleared from a garage after chatting to the owner about bikes, it had an Awesome girvin style flex stem (internal shock) and rigids, hung up in the shed for a good few months before I looked at it properly, decided on a hack bike after the soul getting knocked over mech side down at school for the gazillionth time, and on raiding the spares boxs this is how its ended!

it's running 32/14 at the mo, it's got the old bombers set to 120mm, it's s wearing my old custom nippled xero session wheels with the old pana cinders on, and old 710 bars and 100mm stem, - looking to grab a shorter one soon! Easton ea70post and sdg saddle (cracked saddle rail), old firex cranks and stretched to hell chain haha, old mech chopped for tensioner, and some nice new nukeproof pedals!
Comes in on 25lb of that, i recon 20lb is the bombers! :-D. Its a great laugh to ride, has the brackets for the tag along and trailer on it too, have been up around the woods with littlun in the trailer a fair bit, and funnily enough, leaving it in the same place as the soul at school, its never been knocked over! Funny that! ;-)
In total cost me a bottom bracket and a seat post clamp, so can't complain hey! :-D.

If i ever get round to sorting a rear brake for it (have the caliper and cable just not the lever end) i might be tempted to throw it around the trails in the woods properly!
Timmo.

How hard is it to find a brake lever!

Looks a hoot actually, I've just come into a horizontal dropout Diamondback that I'm a little tempted to do similar with, it's meant to be a jump bike but the frame doesn;'t feel that heavy.
Currently riding a Whyte T130C, X0 drivetrain, Magura Trail brakes converted to mixed wheel size (homebuilt wheels) with 140mm Fox 34 Rhythm and RP23 suspension. 12.2Kg.
  • Its not hard to get hold of one, more is hard for what I want to pay! :-D
that said a wanted on stw resulted in One contact in 10 days! When they do pop up on ebay they go for almost as much as an entire brake set!

Have been out on it today, it Does make me smile every time I ride it,I think mostly in a case of its pretty valueless so if it does fall over or I make it do so it doesn't mater! A few peeps have had a go and enjoyed it, maybe its just the way it rides??

For around the village and short runs its spot on, sadly I don't have the Legs for long jaunts on it yet!!

There's another one in existance? Nice taste in hack bikes, mines a 15" frame, and is brilliant, it handles like a BMX.

  • Awesome!!!
I have seen one other in Perrenporth down here, but was. Black decal'd, used as a hack bike, bit beaten,
They are great fun bikes though!

  • (March 2015) Can anyone confirm the diameter (outer) of the stock handlebars and handlebar stem (the inside diameter of the tube of the front forks)

I have one of these frames and have to replace the handlebar stem (with "offset"?) as I could not adjust it and had to pull it out (let's say) "destructively"

    Cheers

Just saw your post on the SUMBC FB group, weird how small this world is..

It has a 1 & 1/8th headtube, comes stock threaded, but you can easily replace with a standard threadless headset. The stock bars were 25.4mm (or whatever the standard narrow size was) in the clamp area, and the normal 22.2mm or so at the ends.

  • I had a work around to use the Specialised RockHopper tube from the scrap bike courtesy of a length of roller blind rod that made a spot on spacer shim!
