I recently had my bike stolen (Marin Northside trail 2011) and the insurance company has said that I can get a replacement from bikereplacement.com
The Marin was basically perfect for my style of riding; a bit of dirt jumping, trails, 4X, long XC rides, duathlon races and downhill centres. The website has limitations but I have narrowed it down to these bikes:

- Kona Cinder Cone 2013
- Saracen Mantra Expert 2012
- Orange Clockwork 29er 2013
- Potentially also the Charge Blender 2012 jump bike/mid if it can ride more than just jumps/4X and fit a 6ft rider
(Budget is about £850)

Any thoughts on which of these bikes have the versatility to cope with riding dirt jumps to long XC?

  • I know that no bike will be good at everything, a question that might narrow it down a bit is would the 100mm travel rule out most downhill?
I think its between the Saracen and the Kona now

Yes, none of these are DH bikes , jump bikes (or 4x bikes), and unless you are extremely skilled rider, or will pick the easy lines at slow speed then you are going to be disappointed. The charge though will handle the terrain better, but then you'll be limited for the XC.

Going to have to compromise! I think a long travel hardtail would be the best bet, something like this:

If you can spec one with an adjustable travel fork then it would suit jumping better too.
