8 speed upgrade

Will 9 speed shifters work with an 8 speed drive chain (all shimano), I will go all 9 speed at some point but at the moment I just need new shifters.

And does anyone know of a better deal than this for XT shifters (£68 in real money inc postage)

Nope. Shifters, cassette and chain at a minimum.

Good job I checked - I was just about to order a set, I'm now scouring ebay & pink bike

At least all the 8 speed stuff is cheap
