I have a Ribble Gran fondo that is only a couple of months old. About 3 weeks ago the chain started coming of at the front when I changed gear at the back. My LBS had a look and said my front derailier was slightly bent and also slightly out of line allowing the chain to come off. They adjusted it and all was fine for a couple of days. Now the chain doesn't come off but it wouldn't change from the small ring to the large at the front. The bike is now in my LBS if they set it so it changes the chain comes off, if they re adjust it a quarter turn it wont change up. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated as I don't want to have to send it back to Ribble and not have a bike for weeks.I'm also doing a sportive in October so this is ruining my training. Grrrrrr

Cable stretching in - follow up with limit screw adjustment/turning the barrel adjuster?

Or LBS didn't give enough outer/upper limit at the first visit?

Without seeing it that's my 2p

my 2p - adjust upper limiter and maybe loosen/ tighten the cable a little also check the dérailleur is the correct height from the large chain ring.

Really SRAM and utube have so many email on this.

  • SRAM front mechs are a weak point imo. Had similar problems with my rival front mech (i.e. It bent). In the end I bought an Ultegra one and it's been fine for thousands of miles.
  • thanks for all your advice. The bike isn't fixed. Really annoying. gin0rm0 will an Ultegra mech work with a sram rival shifter? Apart from sending the bike back for repairs this seems my only option.

Try sticking a force mech on instead if you want to stay sram
  • I've looked it up online and most people say it works better than the sram ones. So I've ordered a Ultegra 6600. For £17.99 I think it's worth a punt.

Yep, it'll definitely work. My shifters are still Rival (with Ultegra front mech).
  • All done, works well.
