Afternoon all!
I finally finished the complete strip down/rebuild of my 2010 Giant Defy 3. (Hopefully I've added the image correctly, it's the first tme I've posted a photo and am a bit of a biff when it comes to modern technology so fingers crossed!!!!!)

It's just over two years old (obviously  ) and covered just shy of 5k in the good old British weathers!
I use it for both commuting and weekend rides/sportives etc, basically everything, and in all weathers. This has taken it's toll on the poor thing, so I took the opportunity of a lengthy period off the bike (post surgery, and I'm not allowed to ride for a few weeks still yet :x ) to strip it down to the bare bones.

I managed to pick up an almost new complete Shimano Sora groupset from the classifieds on here. The seller reckoned it's only done 100 miles. so it's new enough for my liking!! I decided to get shot of the triple and go for the compact double! Only time will tell if this was a good choice or not, but one advantage of the double is how much easier it is to set up and adjust, an absolute doddle compared to the triple which I never managed to get running perfectly!!!!

Headset bearings have been replaced, wheels stripped and bearings cleaned/greased, new Jagwire cables and outers all round, and generally a really good clean up!
All the other usual bits and bobs done to try and get it back to "almost new"!!!!!

I know it's a fairly low level/budget bike compared to all the carbon and better spec'd ally bikes out there, but I absolutely love my trusty steed, and as much as I'd love to venture into the carbon fibre world, unfortunately my bank balance won't let me, so getting this one refurbed will more than suffice for the forseeable future!

Anyhow, I hope it looks as good to everyone as my rose tinted glasses show it to me!!

Cheers, Tiltz!

  • Thats a very good looking bike you have there, I do like yellow........Like they say - no matter what the bike cost or what it's made of you still have to pedal it :)

looks good! and you were right to go for just the 2 rings up front!
  • Took it out yesterday for the first time in 7 weeks post abdominal surgery. Only did 6 miles just to see how it felt.

The bike is running absolutely lovely after the overhaul, but I felt mega weak, I reckon I've got a lot of hard work ahead of me to get some strength built back up! It's amazing how quickly you can lose fitness and strength once you have a bit of a lay off!!

Loved it though, the sun was out and the roads were quiet, didn't realise how much I've missed being out on the road!!!
