Giro to finish on top of the Galibier
Awesome climb (they're doing it from the Telegraphe side - the proper way).
But 2700m in May? Could be a lot of snow around!
Usually it is not long clear for the Marmotte in early July...

Does this have any impact on the Galibier being in the 100th edition of the Tour?0

It's still a big finish.
Hopefully, they won't have too.
Rumour has it that there won't be too much else on offer.
All about less climbing, more balance, to try and attract the bigger names
chalked in for Le Tour, to double up.
We all know how that will work out."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

Could be tricky trying to decide where to go on holiday next year, this or the 100th TdF.0

Well, you shouldn't have long to wait.
Giro announcement very, very early this year.
The last day of this month, to be exact.
Meanwhile, for an overview of the likely Tour route,

is usually pretty close to the mark, regularly updated and starting to take shape."Science is a tool for cheaters". An anonymous French PE teacher.0 -

I've been over the Galibier in mid May but you have walls of snow either side for the last few km. This year it opened in June but the highways department is skint so they leave the passes as late as is reasonable these days. They can always plough it open, the only issue is that snow on the ridge line needs to be cleared with explosives due to the avalanche risk and they can't do this too early.BASI Nordic Ski Instructor
