Talk about an eye opener!!

I keep getting mail for the previous owners and have been sending it back (as you should). One came through yesterday from the same damn' company and someone at the PO had needed to tear the window to see the address.

They had also ripped away enough to show WHAT the letter was about... Viagra, sex toys, dolls, dating sites... you name it  I have to admit, I did kind of wonder what kind of company Elite Fulfilment was.

I might have to have a chat with the postman and say that's NOT me!!:lol:

Cross out the address, and write "Deceased, return to sender" on the envelope and throw it into the post box. The deceased word seems to kill off the majority of junk mail
  • I sure most of the posties where well aware of that company.

Been a few years since I was a postie but porn normally came though as fake junk mail.

If it's getting more than bit much, ring the delivery office and get them to stop all but correctly adressed ( by name) mail.

When we moved into our last house it had previously been a student house and we were receiving a pile of junk and legit mail for previous occupiers every day. I printed off a load of sheets of "not known at this address, return to sender" labels, popped them on everything that was for us and stuck them back in the post. I also registered all of the names on the Mail Preference Service as previous occupiers and it dried up to nothing within a few months.

I received Decanter magazine for a year courtesy of a previous occupier who didn't leave a forwarding address.

Sadly either his subscription has finished or he's updated his address records

Of coarse you can, how do you think redirection services amongst others work?

Well I guess it makes sense that the current occupant of a property can set up a redirection service for his own mail before he moves house. But can you ask to redirect someone else's mail? I'd have thought not.

I used to rather enjoy the bimonthly porn delivery addressed to the dead fart who previously owned my last house.

He had shuffled off the mortal coil two years prior to our purchasing the building, and yet the brown envelopes continued for around another three years. To gain that sort of customer appreciation he must have had a right arm like Popeye's evil twin :-)

You need to prove Id of person who's mail you want redirecting, you won't be able to do this with old mail as you are not them, plus max redirect time is one year so solution is temporary even if you could..... https://www.royalmail.com/delivery/inbo ... ns/details

If a round has a adress with a lot of old mail that is being killed off. ie lots of mail for Elite Fulfilment rather than Mr Burns. Being asked to stop ie kill it off before it goes on delivery isn't that big a leap nor is it a redirection.

As I actually deal with this stuff (writing in a strictly personal capacity):
    1. Redirections can only be put in place by the person(s) to whom the mail is addressed, with, as has been stated, proof of ID etc. You can't put an official redirection in for someone else.
    2. However, if you have a new address for the person, you are fully entitled to put the new address on the envelope and put it back in the post, no additional postage required. Important caveats are (i) Do not open the envelope or otherwise tamper with it- it will be surcharged (and if the receipient refuses to pay the surcharge it'll be returned, at your cost) (ii) This does not apply to any other courier service. You'd need postage for that.
    3. If you don't have a forwarding address, mark it 'gone away'/return to sender/etc and put it back in the post. Again, do not open or tamper with the envelope to prevent surcharges. What then should happen is that the postman should check with you that the item is indeed not for the current householder/occupier, put an official RM sticker on indicating the reasons for return, and it goes back to the sender.
