Has anyone had one of these as they seem alot of money?

Have replaced so many bits on my bike that I have lost the original settings and I am now getting all sorts of back and knee pains. Am starting to cycle for long periods now and want to get it sorted before i do permanent damage but is it worth it over a standard bike fitting session in a LBS.

Thanks

    Just do it yourself?

But yes, an LBS bike fit is going to be complete guess work at best.
  • I would love to be able to do it myself but there appears to be so many different articles as to how you are supposed to do it that I could still be doing it wrong. if you are aware of a good article on bike fit would be appreciated.

I don't particularly want to spend money on it but if there is resounding support for retul then it may be worth it in the long run ie no physio to pay for in the future for knackered knees , back etc..

Have a look on Steve Hoggs bike fitting website and have a go?

I had my bike fit at a LBS and they did an absolutely superb job.
Free of charge being a very realistic cost considering that I did not buy my bike from them.
Even loaned me a shorter stem to try for a couple of months.

Definitely better than doing it myself

Try the new magazine Cyclist, they have a feature on bike fit in the first issue. The different methods of fit including Retul are featured.

    Perhaps they guessed right?

    :) Yes maybe.

Certainly didn't give the impression that he was guessing.
But obviously different LBS will all give a different service.

It may be worth the OP speaking to a couple of LBS to get an idea of what they can provide.

  • Had one and couldn`t recommend it enough, took about 1 1/2 -2 hours and sorted out any problems I had. Very thorough and I have been provided with a copy of me measurements for future use.

Thank you. Just the sort of confirmation I was looking for

Had a Retul fit done, would highly reccomend, the best money I have spent.A note of caution-it´s only as good as the fitter operating the system like any computer GIGO.
  • A bike fitter will use lots of well recognised parameters to position your handlebars and saddle.
If you are patient enough to use some trial and error you should be able to do it yourself.
  • Ive had a Retul and a Specialized fit and they are alright but I just ride regardless based on what feels right for me and they both produced different measurements!

If I was doing it again I wouldnt bother its just the latest way for bike shops to make a few quid having been damaged by profit loss to online retailers like CRC & Wiggle, bike fits are minimal outlay maximum profit but if it makes you feel good or you want the pro opinion then go for it, me personally Ill buy some new shoes as itll make me more comfy
  • I think it depends on the person doing the fitting. I f you can be fitted and can keep going back until you are dialed in as opposed to one time it is probably worth it.
Specializes and Retul start with KOPS, if that works for you then OK
you could just doit yourself with a friend to measure
