Are Superstar wheelsets any good? I'm not looking to spend too much and knowing Superstars other products are generally good quality I'm tempted to take the plunge. Looking specifically at the DHX or AMX wheelsets.

But I'd rather go and spend a bit more if they are gonna be more durable / better quality / value for money.

Or any other suggestions of wheelsets to look at that do not break the bank!

  • My mate has a set of the DHX and they're tough enough for sure but if I were you I'd splash out an extra £70 and get the Flows on Switch EVO deal

I just bought a set today and I don't even have a frame to put them on...yet

They are good, but if your upgrading keep your original set, if you have any problems you'll be waiting a while to get it sorted. Their after care service is rubbish.
  • Not had the DHX or AMX rims but Superstar's builds are excellent, their service is good & you get free haribo!
The bearings in the Switch Evo hubs can wear quickly but I haven't had any problems.
I have had a set of Mavic EX721 on Switch Evo for downhill & Mavic XM719 on switch evo for XC/AM. Both builds have been solid.

So far, my Switch/Crest combo have been good - in terms of build they're no worse than any other wheels I've bought in the past (Shimano's, Mavic's etc) and they are currently ridiculous value for money.
How would I write my own epitaph? With a crayon - I'm not allowed anything I can sharpen to a sustainable point.

Disclaimer: Opinions expressed herein are worth exactly what you paid for them.
  • My Superstar wheelset is spot on (Arch Ex on Switch EVO/Trizoid) - bearing in mind I'm riding a hardtail 'round the Alps they are obviously getting a real pounding and they are spot on - can't see them needing to be trued or serviced before the season's out.

Always great service from Superstar although the website needs some work pretty sharpish..apart from that..c'est tout bon :)

    i have thier AM490 wheelset

i crashed last time i was at Degla (not paying attention, hit a stump, over the handlebars). The front wheel took most of the impact and didnt even blink.

they take a proper beating, and for £180 you cant complain
