Swapping wheels / brakes...

Hello :D

I would like to swap the brakes and wheels from my Kona onto my Orange - basically because they are both newer and white, which will match the Orange better, and I ride the Orange more than the Kona 8)

Is this really as simple as it seems? Take off one set of brakes and swap them over? Both bike frames are about the same size. And how about the wheels? As far as I can tell I only need to swap the brake rotors (easy) and the cassette (no idea - guidance appreciated :D )?

I would really like to tackle all of this on Sunday, so any advice / tips would be appreciated!

    Cassette tool and chain whip.

    T25 to remove rotors.

Swap bits, refit wheels, adjust brakes and gears. Ride ;-).

I assume the axle types are all the same.

Fair enough! I'm not worried about swapping the easy bits but the cassette tool and chain whip are an unknown area

How easy is it to do?

    have a read of parktools.

place wheel against legs with cassette facing away.fit chain whip and cassette tool so they are at 3 and 9 o'clock then press down.

will go click click click and undo.

Should go click click click and undo. You might have to put a bit of back into it.

  • If it's your first time with a chain whip and cassette tool it might be worth wearing some thickish gloves, a slip and you can easily take the skin of your knuckles.

Ok, thanks for the tip. I will definitely wear gloves then!

  • It's not hard. Just make sure all the chain in the whip is on the teeth laying over the top and round and down one of the biggest cogs Hold the bar at about 2-3 o'clock
  • It might be worth checking your front wheels. I suspect the Kona will have a 20mm axle, where the Diva probably has a QR 15?

    Hello Jen :-)

Yes, you're right, but I have the little converter thingy from when I bought the Kona's wheels - I assume this will work....?
