First up I have the bike that started me off the second time around, a 2008 Trek Soho 1.0 hybrid.

Effectively it's an MTB with 700c wheels, 32mm tyres, disc brakes (excellent!), 48/38/28 chainset and 12-28 8-speed cassette.
I've owned it for 4 years, but for most of that time it has lived in a cupboard, I've been riding it seriously for the last 2 months. It's light to ride and rolls along well, I use it for commuting and town work which seems to be it's natural environment. I've got a rear rack for it so I could use it for some light touring.
Next, my first road bike since I was 16, bought new today, a 2012 Giant Defy 2.

This bike is so nice to ride, it flies along compared to the hybrid and has the gearing I was looking for. Compact 50/34 chainset with 12-30 10-speed cassette and Tiagra mechanics. On the ride home I was pedalling easily halfway down the cassette on the 50 where I would struggle on the 48 on the hybrid, cannot believe the difference, and it is comfortable too!

Like the Giant, toying with the idea of getting the 2013 Defy 2 as my first serious road bike.Planet X XLS 2013
