Hi all
Now i'm reasonably clever and i've spent the whole weekend reading nuemrous webpages, but i do not understand the sizing terminology

Thought i would go out and get a spare inner tube or 2 so that i can join local rides.

The tyres on my new biks say 23/571 and (650x23C)

No matter where i go in the interweb, decathlon, tesco (!) and Evans today, i see nothing that corresponds - i found some "24"s and some "700"s but that's the closest i got

i must be missing the "Wheel Tyre and inner tube sizing chart for dummies" :(

Hints gratefully received

There are different ways of specifying tyre and wheel sizes - see here: http://sheldonbrown.com/tire-sizing.html

Basically, tyres are often specified by outside diameter (usually road bikes in mm and mountain bikes in inches) but also the ETRTO standard which is wheel rim diameter in mm. They also specify the tyre width in mm and inches.

The issue you have is the road wheel are 99% of the time 700mm referred to as 700c. 650c tyres are relatively unusual on road bikes.

For 700c tyres, the ETRTO number is 622mm and road tyres are usually 23mm or 25mm wide.
So road tyres are usually specified like 700c 23/622. And corresponding inner tubes have a range of widths - like 700c 622/20-28.

Mountain bike tyres are done in inches, usually 26" but some 29" and now 650b are coming into it (metric just to add to the confusion).

And older roadsters will have different sizes too.

Anway, for your bike, you'll need something like:

my wheel is smaller cos I am ! As I have found all my life, I can never find trousers that don't hang round my ankles, so I'm not surprised I cant get my leg over (a bike frame that is)
