Love mtb but wanted to try a road bike

Not sure I'll ever become a true roadie but I wanted to do some road riding and my mtb is geared / tyred for trails more than road so I bought an old Peugeot in good condition and took it out for the first time this afternoon.
Well its certainly different to ride than the mtb! The compact position, narrow bars and tyres, high gearing (2 x 5) blah, blah, blah. But guess what, I love it. Just ordered me some new pedals and I need to get the seatpost unstuck but I'm gonna do more on the road now and keep my 'dirty jo' mtb for the rough stuff not the tarmac.
Couple of pics from my mobile.

Cracking! Looks clean indeed, picked up a nice wee bargain there!
I've seen a few of these around and they seem to be worth a few quid... glad you're happy with the purchase - I noticed you also managed to squeeze the MTB into the top picture :P
How do you find the downtube shifters? It's been a while...0 -
Nice! I got one out of a skip, but it didn't look quite as nice as your one, so I refurbished it:

Nice, I love the difference getting on the road bike after the mountain bike, so much faster!0

My new tyres have arrived along with a brown charge spoon saddle, and brown bar tape.
I've fitted the saddle and will probably do the tape tyres, tubes tomorrow. Still waiting for my pedals and straps.Cheers Nathan.0 -
I bought a charge spoon for my retro bike but it wouldn't fit the seatpost! Used it on my mtb instead and is very comfortable. I don't think you can go wrong for the money0

Nice, I'd love an old Peugeot like this. Good find! Cycling is cycling, on or off the roads. Enjoy.0

Enjoy ! But please don't rely on those brake lever extensions to slow you down. With good reason they are widely known as suicide levers. My advice is take them off right away.Would welcome company for Sat rides west/south of Edinburgh, up to 3 hrs, 16mph ish. Please PM me if interested/able to help.0

I had the same bike in that colour as a kid and regret selling it to this day. looks great. Would love to find my old one to restore it.0

I managed to do some bits on it today between shifts @ work, though I've still got to fit the new rear tube and tyre which will involve drilling the rim to accommodate the bigger valve.
